Contact Lenses

We have been an industry leading practice for over 20 years, and as such we are often one of the first practices in the UK to trial new lens materials and types. Whether it is for occasional or regular wear, contact lenses provide an alternative form of vision correction. Contrary to popular belief, age is not a barrier to contact lens wear - in fact we regularly fit children as young as 4 years old.

Significant advances in contact lens materials as well as the equipment used to measure and fit them mean that we now have access to a wide range of lens types to suit almost everyone; daily disposables, 2 weekly replacement, multifocal, toric, as well as specialist lenses. So whether you are an existing wearer, if you have previously been told you were unsuitable for contact lenses, or have struggled with them in the past, why not talk to us and find out how we can help.

Why choose First Contact Opticians?

Our contact lens specialist Shelly has gained recognition throughout the industry as an expert not only in everyday contact lens fittings, but in specialist fields such as orthokeratology, multifocal lenses and keratoconic lenses. He has lectured worldwide on best contact lens practice and is also a key opinion leader for all the major contact lens companies. Shelly has also served two consecutive terms as the President of the British Contact Lens Association.

First Contact Opticians have also been accredited with an "Acuvue Centre Of Excellence" by leading contact lens manufacturer Johnson & Johnson. However, as an independent practice we have no affiliations, and are therefore are able to supply lenses from any reputable manufacturer to provide the lenses which are the most suitable for your eyes.

Insertion and removal of contact lenses can be a worry for many patients, especially at first. We will teach you the correct techniques, and will happily spend however long it takes for you to feel confident to handle the lenses at home - whether this happens quickly or needs multiple sessions. All of our patients also benefit from what we call our ‘out of hours service’. If we are closed and you are in need of assistance, simply get in touch with us by email, or leave us a message on our Facebook page and one of the team will get back to you as soon as possible.

Regular contact lens aftercare allows us to ensure that your contact lenses always fit perfectly & comfortably and without any risk to the overall health of your eyes. That is why all of our contact lens wearers are required to join our First Contact Care Plan.

Contact lenses which adapt to changing light

Recently released - Acuvue Oasys with Transitions quickly and seamlessly adapts to balance the amount of indoor and outdoor light entering the eye, including filtering blue light and blocking harmful UV rays.
Contact lens recycling scheme

We are delighted to now be able to help the environment by reducing the amount of plastic waste in landfill and the oceans. Please drop into the practice any disposable contact lenses and any brand of packaging or foil from the blister packs.

Once collected, the aggregated contact lenses, blister packaging and outer foils are sorted, shredded and washed. The material is then densified into hard-granulated plastic granules. The granules are then extruded so they can be incorporated into the production of different plastic products such as benches and other outdoor furniture.
